Issue/Introduction

Adding IPMI/iLO settings for host power management does not work on MiTAC servers with MegaRAC OneTree reporting the error:

Operation failed! A specified parameter was not correct: ipmiInfo

BMC settings and credentials have been validated and the error persists.

Impact:

  1. vSphere Distributed Power Management host power management does not work with MiTAC servers.  Impacted server models include R2513G6 and R2520G6 with Intel Xeon 6 6500P/6700P (Granite Rapids-SP).
  2. Attempting to power On an ESXi host that is already in standby mode from the VC UI is impacted.
  3. Manually entering and exiting the host to and from standby mode does not work.

Environment

vSphere 9.0

vSphere 8.x

vSphere 7.x

Resolution

To power off/on MiTAC servers remotely, use ipmitool 1.8.19 or newer, MegaRAC OneTree web interface, or other remote management options provided by MiTAC.

The ESXi host can also be shut down using the vSphere Client via Host->Power->Shut down.

Use remote management methods provided by MiTAC to enter/exit host power saving mode as required.
