Issue/Introduction

  • In VCF 9.0.x, configuring the Online Depot from Fleet Management fails with the error: "Error in setting Online depot configuration"
  • The same proxy and download token work successfully in SDDC Manager.

  • Fleet Management fails to reach dl.broadcom.com because proxy settings are not properly synchronized from VCF Operations.

  • Running the hostname command on the VCF Operations guest OS returns a short name instead of an FQDN.

Environment

VCF Fleet Management

Cause

This issue occurs because the VCF Operations node is configured with a short name instead of an FQDN.

The fundamental root cause of this misconfiguration stems from underlying connectivity issues with the DNS server during the node's initial deployment.

Specifically, a DNS reverse-lookup timeout caused the guest OS to fall back to a short name. Because Fleet Management relies on the FQDN to synchronize proxy settings with VCF Operations, the communication fails, preventing internet access.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must update the VCF Operations node hostname from a short name to an FQDN.

Follow the steps in this Knowledge Base article:

Once the hostname is successfully updated to the FQDN, retry the Online Depot configuration in Fleet Management.
