Issue/Introduction

Under what specific scenarios does a SMARTS monitored device require a full off-boarding and re-onboarding versus a simple automatic refresh or rediscovery when device details are updated?

Resolution

You can simply update the seed file and re-run discovery for the following changes:

SNMPv3 Credentials: If credentials are updated in the seed file, rediscovery will update the device.

EngineID Changes: Updating the EngineID and re-running discovery will pick up the change.

Device Name Changes: These also require rediscovery.
