Disable alarms for a specific VM in vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • When you want to disable an alarm of a specific VM instead of all ESXI hosts in vCenter.
  • This is useful when you have a planned activity on the VM.
  • It helps in avoiding false alarms on vCenter and thus avoids other alarm actions associated with that alarm like creation of internal tickets.

Environment

vCenter 7.0 and later versions.

vCenter 8.0 and later versions.

Resolution

In order to disable a specific VM alarm, please follow below steps.

  1. Log in to the vSphere Web Client.
  2. Identify the VM within vCenter`s inventory.
  3. Select the VM, click on configure and then select "Alarm Definitions".
  4. Post selecting the "Alarm Definitions" Search for desired alarm and select is through radio box. For Example "Virtual machine CPU usage" as below.

  1. Click "Disable" in blue, this will be highlighted only if the alarm is selected.
  2. This will disable the desired alarm of the specific VM in the vCenter.
