Issue/Introduction

ESX host is unable to connect to or ping the Dell Unity SAN storage, resulting in a complete loss of access to storage volumes.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

The root cause was identified as a configuration mismatch on the Dell Unity storage array.

Resolution

To restore connectivity, the storage configuration must be updated to match the physical cabling.

iSCSI initiator settings on the Dell Unity array against the physical uplink connections.

Reconfigure the iSCSI initiators to point to the correct physical uplinks on the storage array

Additional Information

To test the connectivity use the vmkping test from the host's VMkernel (vmk) interfaces to the storage targets.
