Issue/Introduction

  • When creating a new Workload domain from VCF Operations, the below errors appear for the vCenter IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway -

  • Errors -

IP address and default gateway must be on the same subnet.

Subnet Mask should be able to identify network address of IP.

Default Gateway and IP address must be on the same subnet.

Environment

VCF 9.0

Cause

The VI workload domain vCenter server is not in the same subnet as the Management domain vCenter.

During the VI Domain creation process, the VCF Operations gateway validates the vCenter FQDN and IP. If the IP resides on a different subnet, the deployment will fail due to this built-in design restriction. VCF 9 expects all Management domain components including the VI domain, to be on the same management network as the VCF Operations.

Resolution

Deploy the vCenter Server Appliances for the Workload domains on the VM management network in the management domain.

Additional Information

VCF-VCS-REQD-NET-001 - Place all workload domain vCenter appliances on the VM management network in the management domain.

  • Simplifies IP addressing for management VMs by using the same VLAN and subnet.
  • Provides simplified secure access to management VMs in the same VLAN network.
