  • PSOD might occure after update Cisco Integrated Management Controller and first time power on ESXi
  • Reboot ESXi can recover from PSOD
  • PSOD message below displayed and no dump file created
    The system has found a problem on your machine and cannot continue.
    Unable to restore the system configuration. A security violation was detected. https://via.vmw.com/security-violation
  • SEL logged event similar with
    When: YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss
       Event Type: 2 (Information)
       SEL Type: 2 (System Event)
       Message: Assert + System Firmware Error Transition to Idle

Environment

VMware ESXi 8.x

Cause

This PSOD caused by the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) measurement values being skewed (or: offset) after a CIMC version upgrade.

Resolution

This is one time issue. Reboot ESXi host can recover from PSOD.
