Issue/Introduction

Users receive an error splash screen shortly after logging into the Automic Web Interface (AWI)․ The issue relates to the system being unable to write to the telemetry settings object․‌‍

ERROR MESSAGE:
"Unable to open Telemetry VARA object 'UC_TELEMETRY_SETTINGS' for writing."
"java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke 'com.uc4.api.objects.Variable.remove(String)' because 'com.uc4.ecc.plugins.telemetry.TelemetryVara.vara' is null"

Environment

Release: v24.x

Component: Automic Web Interface

Cause

DE181725

Resolution

Workaround:

The following interim actions can be applied to mitigate the issue:

  1. In Client 0, open the object UC_TELEMETRY_SETTINGS in edit mode.

    • If required, use a forced edit.

    • Close the object without making changes.
This action typically releases any residual locks and resolves the behavior.

  2. Restart the AWI.

    • This will terminate any active sessions that may be holding a write lock on the object.

These steps have been shown to clear the condition in most cases and can be used as an immediate stabilization measure.

Solution:

Update to a fix version listed below or a newer version if available.

Fix version:

Component(s): Automic Web Interface
