Virtual TPM (vTPM) is missing in the Virtual Machine Edit Settings

Issue/Introduction

After adding a Virtual TPM (vTPM) to a virtual machine, the vTPM device is not visible in the "Edit Settings" hardware list.

Environment

vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

Starting with Virtual Machine Hardware Version 17, VMware introduced support for vSGX.
As a result, the vTPM is no longer listed as a standalone device but is instead nested under the "Security Devices" category.

Resolution

Check the location of the vTPM based on the Virtual Machine Hardware Version:

• Hardware Version 14 through 16:

The vTPM appears as a standalone device (Virtual TPM) in the device list.

• Hardware Version 17 or later:

The vTPM is located under the "Security Devices" section.
Expand the "Security Devices" item to view or modify vTPM settings.
