Issue/Introduction

Is it possible to check whether SMF is active using SYSVIEW and SYSVAPPS?

Also, is it possible to determine whether the SMF dataset is being recorded correctly?

Resolution

SYSVIEW and SYSVAPPS support the ability to use SMF commands to check whether SMF is in the ACTIVE state.

By checking the status on the SMF display screen, it is possible to see whether data is being recorded to the SMF dataset.
Specifically, datasets with the status ACTIVE are recording data, while datasets with other statuses (such as AVAILABLE) are not recording data.
