Issue/Introduction

This article introduces the vSAN Health check 'Client cluster mount check' and provides details on why it might report the error and how to fix the error state.

Environment

VMware vSAN 9.1

Resolution

Q: What does the 'Client cluster mount check' check do?

  • This check is to verify if there is a client cluster mounting the datastore of the vSAN cyber recovery cluster.

Q: What does it mean when it is in an error state?

  • If this test returns red, it means there is no client cluster configured for the vSAN cyber recovery cluster.

Note: vSAN cyber recovery won’t work without a client cluster configured, which is needed to run VMs during recovery.

Q: How does one troubleshoot and fix the error state?

  • To address this error, configure a client cluster mounting the datastore of the vSAN cyber recovery cluster with the following steps:
    1. Prepare a vSAN HCI cluster or vSAN compute cluster as the client cluster for this vSAN cyber recovery cluster.
    2. Navigate to the client cluster's Configure tab, select vSAN > Datastore Management.
    3. Click 'Mount Remote Datastore', select the datastore of the vSAN cyber recovery cluster, and then complete the mounting process.
