Q: What does the 'protection and recovery appliance deployment' check do? 

  • This health check verifies that the protection and recovery appliance is deployed and registered on the vSAN cyber recovery cluster.

Q: What does it mean when it is in an error state?

  • When the health check is in an error state, it indicates that he protection and recovery appliance is not deployed or not properly registered with the vCenter Server.
  • In this state, none of the cyber recovery functionality will work. 

Q: How does one troubleshoot and fix the error state?

  • Follow the below steps to resolve the "Protection and recovery appliance deployment" health check error:

1. Navigate to the cluster configuration page:

    1. In vSphere client UI, select your vSAN cyber recovery cluster
    2. Go to "Configure" → "Protection & Recovery"

2. Deploy the appliance:

    1. Follow the deployment wizard to install the protection and recovery appliance
    2. Ensure all prerequisites are met (network connectivity, resource availability, etc.)
    3. Complete the deployment process

3. Verify deployment

    1.  After deployment, return to "Monitor" → "vSAN" → "Health" and click "Retest"
    2. Confirm that the "Protection and recovery appliance deployment" check status changes to green
