Issue/Introduction

After entering valid domain user credential on the vCenter Server login page, the browser does not redirect to the dashboard. Instead, the screen fails to refresh and remains on a blank white page.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

The issue is attributed to the following two primary factors:

  • Missing Permissions: The target domain user has not been assigned the necessary roles or permissions within vCenter Server.
  • LDAP Search Failure: The Identity Source configuration is unable to properly locate or retrieve the user object from the LDAP/Active Directory server.

Resolution

Step 1: Correct LDAP Base DN Configuration
Adjust the Base DN settings within the vCenter Identity Source configuration to ensure the LDAP search scope covers the OU (Organizational Unit) where the user reside.
Verify that the domain user can be successfully searched and displayed in the vCenter user list.

Step 2: Assign vCenter Permissions
Once the user is searchable, explicitly assign the appropriate permissions/roles to that domain user or their associated group at the vCenter Server, Datacenter, or Cluster level.
