Issue/Introduction

When attempting to configure the Online Depot in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), users encounter a validation error preventing authentication.

  • Symptom: After pasting a token into the Online Depot settings, the error message "Symbols exceeded the maximum length of 50" (or similar length constraint) appears.

  • Impact: The Authenticate button is greyed out/unclickable, preventing the download of VCF bundles and software components.

Environment

VCF Installer 9.x

Cause

The user is attempting to use a Registry Token or an incorrect portal credential. The VCF Online Depot field has a specific character limit that is incompatible with the longer Registry Token strings.

Resolution

Generate a token via Download Token, which is distinct from a Registry Token.

  1. Log in to the Broadcom Support Portal.

  2. Navigate to the My Dashboard tab.

  3. Locate the Quick Links section on the right-hand side or bottom of the dashboard.

  4. Click on Generate Download Token.

  5. Copy the resulting token string.

  6. Return to the VCF Installer/SDDC Manager and paste this string into the Token field under Depot Settings.

  7. Click Authenticate.
