Tier-0 and Tier-1 Gateway status showing as Unknown or Failed in NSX environment

Issue/Introduction

• In an NSX environment, the Tier-0 gateway status appears as Unknown and the Tier-1 gateway status appears as Failed.
• This occurred while a specific NSX Edge node was placed in maintenance mode.

Cause

The Tier-0 gateway shows a status of Unknown because one of the associated NSX Edge nodes is in maintenance mode, preventing the system from accurately reporting the state of that gateway component.

Resolution

It is expected behavior for the Tier-0 and Tier-1 gateway statuses to appear as "Unknown" or "Failed" while in maintenance mode.
To resolve these status indicators, the NSX Edge node must be taken out of maintenance mode.
