Issue/Introduction

The following log entry may be visible when the version of the Gateway database does not match the version of the Gateway appliance:
**** Unable to start the server: The database is not an Gateway Database or is not the right version (10.0.00). Please check or upgrade the database before starting the gateway.

This message displays the current Gateway database version (in this example, 9.4) and the expected database version (in this example, 10.0.00). This indicates that the Gateway appliance is currently running version 9.4 but the current Gateway database is running version 10.0.00. These versions are incompatible with one another and the Gateway database must be upgraded to accommodate.

Environment

Release: 10.0
Component: APIGTW

Resolution

Upgrading the Gateway database is detailed specific in the section titled?Step 2: Upgrade the Layer 7 Gateway in the Layer 7 Installation and Maintenance Manual. More information on this subject can be found in that particular document for the applicable version of the Gateway appliance. A short summary of the steps required to resolve the issue are detailed below.

  1. Log into the Gateway appliance as the?ssgconfig?user
  2. Select Option #2: Display the Layer 7 Gateway configuration menu
  3. Select Option #1: Upgrade the Layer 7 Gateway database
  4. Continue through the prompts that appear.

Once the prompts complete, the Layer 7 Gateway database will have been upgraded. You may need to restart the Gateway appliance for the new changes to completely take effect. If the issue persists after upgrading in this manner, please open a new case with Layer 7 Support and reference this article.

Additional Information

The Layer 7 Gateway appliance requires a Gateway database as well as a configured Gateway node. Without these two items, a Gateway appliance will be unable to access or process message traffic. When a Gateway appliance is upgraded, the Gateway database must be upgraded separately. The Gateway database maintains its own version number to indicate what version the schema matches. A Gateway appliance and a Gateway database must be running at the same version to function and accept messages. If the Gateway database is not upgraded after the appliance is upgraded then the Gateway may fail to start or accept traffic.
