Environment

vCenter Server 7.x

vCenter Server 8.x

Resolution

1. Create the Cluster Object

  • Log in to the vSphere Client.
  • Navigate to Home > Hosts and Clusters.
  • Right-click on the Datacenter (or folder) where you wish to place the cluster and select New Cluster.
  • In the Name and Location section, provide a name for the cluster.
  • Under the Cluster Features section, enable desired services such as vSphere DRS and vSphere HA.
  • Critical Step: In the Lifecycle Management section, ensure the checkbox "Manage all hosts in the cluster with a single image" is NOT selected.
  • Note: If this box is checked, the cluster will use the vLCM Image-based model.
  • Click Next and then Finish.

2. Verify Baseline Management

  • Select the newly created cluster in the inventory.
  • Click on the Updates tab.
  • Verify that the view displays Baselines and Baseline Groups.
  • If you see a prompt to "Setup Image," the cluster is correctly configured for baseline management. Do not click "Setup Image" unless you intend to convert to the image-based model.
