How to check vSAN on-disk format version

Issue/Introduction

This document explains the procedure for checking the vSAN on-disk format version using the vSphere Client and ESXi host commands.

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0.x

Resolution

• Check the vSAN on-disk format version in vSphere Client

1.  In the vSphere Client, navigate to the vSAN cluster.
2.  Click the "Configure" tab.
3.  Under the vSAN section, click "Disk Management".
4.  After clicking on "View Disks", the Disk Format Version will be displayed in the Disk Group section.

• Check the vSAN on-disk format version using a Command on an ESXi Host

On an ESXi host, the vSAN on-disk format version for each individual device can be referenced from the output of the "localcli vsan storage list" command.
Command:
localcli vsan storage list

Excerpt from the Command Output:

• vSAN on-disk format version 20 is introduced in vSAN 8.0 U3
