Transport node status becomes INSTALL FAILED due to DNS issues on the ESXi

Issue/Introduction

• Transport Node Status is INSTALL FAILED on UI (System > Fabric > Host).
• ESXi hosts  fail to resolve NSX Manager FQDN.
• ESXi hosts show the below log in nsxcli.log:

<TIMESTAMP> <ID> cli.server.cli_command_service INFO {0} CMD: join management-plane <FQDN> thumbprint <thumbprint> token <token-obfuscated> node-uuid <UUID> validate-manager-cert
<TIMESTAMP> <ID> cli.commands.host_shared.register INFO Node registration failed, rc=28: curl_wrapper: (28) Failed to connect to <FQDN> port <PORT>: [Errno -2] Name or service not known

Environment

VMware NSX

VMware ESXi

Cause

If the ESXi host cannot resolve the NSX Manager FQDN, the join management-plane command will fail and result in an INSTALL FAILED status.

Resolution

Please ensure that the ESXi host can resolve the NSX Manager FQDN via DNS.
