Issue/Introduction

Clarification is requested regarding post-migration data validation and integrity verification in a VLSR (VMware Live Site Recovery) environment using array-based replication through a SRA (Storage Replication Adapter).

Specifically, clarification is needed on:

  • Validation of complete data transfer

  • Verification of data integrity

  • Scope of SRM validation capabilities

Environment

  • VLSR (VMware Live Site Recovery), formerly known as SRM (Site Recovery Manager)

  • vSphere Replication is not part of the deployment

  • Array-based replication through SRA (Storage Replication Adapter)

Cause

In a VLSR deployment using array-based replication,

  • Data replication is performed by the storage array.

  • The SRA (Storage Replication Adapter) is developed and provided by the storage vendor.

  • VLSR orchestrates recovery workflows but does not transfer, inspect, or validate virtual machine data at the block level.

Resolution

In array-based replication environments under VLSR:

  • Confirmation of data synchronization state, completeness, and storage-level integrity must be obtained from the storage system.

  • Verification methods and audit information are defined within the storage platform and its associated documentation.

From the VLSR perspective, validation is limited to:

  • Recovery plan execution status

  • Task completion results in the VLSR interface

  • VLSR log files indicating workflow execution

Block-level data verification must be performed using storage array tools and vendor-provided validation mechanisms.
