When attempting to configure replication for a virtual machine, the following symptoms occur:
Users select the "Configure datastore per disk" option to add hard disks individually.
An unexpected new hard disk entry appears in the list with a checkbox already enabled.
This additional disk entry does not correspond to any physical or virtual disk currently attached to the VM's hardware configuration.
vSphere Replication 9.x
This behavior is by design and occurs when the policy for the replication group or VM is set to "Auto-include new disks for replication".
When this feature is enabled, the system ensures that any disk added to the VM in the future is automatically captured by the vSphere replication appliance. It is a proactive configuration setting rather than a reflection of an existing ghost disk.
This is an expected behaviour and no corrective action is required.
