Increasing the logging verbosity of the Policy Manager on Windows

Issue/Introduction

The API Gateway Policy Manager limits the severity threshold and verbosity of the log entries that are generated by the Policy Manager. Some troubleshooting steps may require that more verbose logging is required. This article will prescribe the steps necessary to adjust the severity threshold of the Policy Manager to troubleshoot issues related to that product.

Environment

All supported versions of the API Gateway

Resolution

1. Download the compressed archive attached to this article
2. Decompress the contents of the archive
3. Navigate to the directory where the Policy Manager is installed (by default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Layer 7 Technologies)
4. Copy the contents of the compressed archive into the directory specified above
5. Execute the "Extra Logging.bat" file to start the Policy Manager
6. Attempt to reproduce the observed behavior that requires troubleshooting
7. Deliver a copy of the Policy Manager log file to the support engineer
