When configuring or hardening VMware Aria Automation 8.18.x appliances, you may need to define the standard communication settings for the physical console and Teletype (TTY) interfaces. Incorrect settings can lead to display issues or non-compliance with Broadcom’s supportability standards for appliance management.
Aria Automation 8.18.5
Virtual Appliance (Photon OS based)
Broadcom standard recommendation to set console TTY and the physical console to secure the Customer Cyber Environment
Broadcom recommends the following configurations for the virtual appliance consoles:
Terminal Type (TERM):
The default and recommended terminal type is linux or xterm
For the physical console, ensure the environment variable is set to linux.
TTY Configuration:
Aria Automation appliances typically utilize tty1 for the physical console.
Physical Console Access:
Access via the vSphere Client (MKS console) should remain enabled for emergency troubleshooting.
To modify or verify settings, inspect the /etc/systemd/logind.conf file to ensure NAutoVTs and ReserveVT are set to product defaults.
