Issue/Introduction

With the release of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0 and VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) 9.0, the traditional method of applying 25-character license keys to ESXi and vCenter has been retired.

Environment

ESXi 9.x

vCenter 9.x

VMware Cloud Foundation Operations 9.0

Cause

Licensing in version 9.0 is now strictly subscription-based. This requires a centralized management component (VCF Operations) to handle license file application and verification against the Broadcom Business Services portal.

Resolution

To license your ESXi 9.x hosts and vCenter 9.x instances, follow these steps:

  1. Download VCF Operations 9.0: Access the Broadcom Support Portal to Download the VCF Operations 9.0 OVA.

  2. Deployment: Deploy the VCF Operations instance within your management cluster.

  3. Portal Integration: Log in to the VCF Business Services Console (vcf.broadcom.com) to manage your subscriptions. Learn More about Business Service Console and VCF 9

  4. Apply Licenses: Use the VCF Operations interface to download and apply subscription-based license files to your infrastructure. Refer to Licensing in VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0
