Issue/Introduction

After importing the NSX Local Manager (LM) configuration to the Global Manager (GM), the AVI Load Balancer (NSX Cloud) enters a "down" state or is unable to fetch Global Manager Tier-1 objects.

Environment

NSX 3.x

NSX 4.x

NSX 9.x

Cause

The issue stems from an architectural limitation in the integration between AVI and NSX Federation. AVI Load Balancer does not support Global Manager integration directly. Specifically, AVI can only utilize Local Tier-1 objects; it cannot reference or function with Global Tier-1 gateways imported or managed by the Global Manager.

Resolution

To restore service, the network topology must be adjusted to use Local objects exclusively for the AVI integration:

  1. Create Local Objects: Create Local NSX segments and a Local Tier-1 gateway on the relevant site.
  2. Connect to Global T0: Connect this new Local Tier-1 gateway to the existing Global Tier-0 gateway.
  3. Reconfigure AVI: Update the AVI configuration to reference the new Local Tier-1 gateway and Local segments instead of the Global objects.

Additional Information

Per NSX-T Multi-Location Design Guide (Federation + Multisite), strictly "LM-T1" (Local Manager Tier-1) is supported for AVI use cases
