Issue/Introduction

Processes such as the SpectroSERVER are terminating unexpectedly with no obvious application log errors.

In the /var/log/messages an entry similar to the following is seen:

MMM DD HH:MM:SS <hostname> kernel: Out of memory: Killed process <pid> (<processname>) total-vm:#########kB, anon-rss:#########kB, file-rss:###kB, shmem-rss:#kB, UID:#### pgtables#####kB oom_score_adj:#

Environment

Spectrum all supported versions

Cause

This indicates the Linux Kernel Out of Memory killer has terminated the process due to memory pressure on the server.

Resolution

Ensure the server has enough memory to run Spectrum, the Operating System, and other processes which may be running on the system
