Issue/Introduction

  • When attempting to generate a report or view metrics for ESXi hosts in Aria Operations, the Driver Version property for vmnic network adapters is empty, null, or missing.
  • The Driver Name for the same adapters is successfully populated and visible.
  • This issue persists despite successful collection cycles between Aria Operations and the vCenter Server.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.5

Cause

Aria Operations relies on the vCenter Server API to collect properties and metrics regarding ESXi host hardware.

Upon investigation, it has been determined that the vCenter Server does not expose granular Driver Version details for these specific network adapters through the API endpoints used by Aria Operations. Because Aria Operations is a downstream consumer of this data, it cannot display information that is not provided by the source (vCenter).

Resolution

This is currently expected behavior based on the data available from vCenter Server. Aria Operations is functioning correctly by displaying all available data, however, the source data for the driver version is absent.
