VMware vSphere ESXi VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  •  ServiceNow CMDB Discovery successfully connects to vCenter and retrieves certain objects (like Datacenter, Folder) but ESXi hosts and VMs residing in it are not being discovered.

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server Appliance
  • VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

This is mostly observed if permission to the AD account is not properly assigned to the respective vCenter inventory objects.

Resolution

  • Verify if the AD user account is present.
  • Add the AD user to the Global Permission with read-only role and Global > License privilege in vCenter.
  • Propagate the permissions to the child objects.
