VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

You observe that VM-to-VM path searches in the Network Map feature of VCF Operations for Networks sometimes results in timeouts or incomplete diagrams.

While the logical path may display, the physical device path is missing or fails to load entirely.

This issue typically occurs when querying paths between specific endpoints (e.g., VM '<VM_NAME_REDACTED>' to VM '<VM_NAME_REDACTED>') that traverse the physical fabric.

NOTE:  VCF Operations for Networks was formerly named Aria Operations for Networks (AON), and prior to that was named vRealize Network Insight (vRNI).

Environment

VCF Operations for Networks

Cause

The root cause of these symptoms is a possible compatibility mismatch between the VCF Operations for Networks collector and the operating system of one or more of the physical switches in the physical fabric between the endpoints selected.

Resolution

If you experience these symptoms, please do the following:

  1. Verify Compatibility:

  2. Feature Review:

    • Ensure that physical switch devices in the path do not rely on unsupported features for the specific collector version, such as complex BGP-EVPN or GLBP configurations that may not be fully parsed in legacy modes.

If you have done these steps and still would like an investigation, please open a support case with the VCF Operations for Networks team using the instructions at KB KB 142884 - Creating and managing Broadcom support request (SR) cases.
