Issue/Introduction

Host certificate is expected to present details (subject, issuer etc.) and able to be renewed through vCenter.

In certain instances, administrator users may find certificate details missing and the associated function buttons greyed out.

The host certificate is verified to be central managed by VMCA.

Resolution

  1. In the vSphere Client, select the vCenter Server system that manages the hosts.
  2. Click Configure, and under Settings, click Advanced Settings.
  3. Click Edit Settings.
  4. Click the Filter icon in the Name column, and in the Filter box, enter vpxd.certmgmt to display only certificate management parameters.
  5. The available options are vmca, custom, and thumbprint.
  6. Change the value of vpxd.certmgmt.mode to "vmca".
  7. Take a snapshot for vCenter.
  8. Restart vpxd service.
