DNS queries being forwarded to non-functioning DNS server when using the NSX DNS Zone feature

Issue/Introduction

• A DNS server is in a broken or retired (powered-off) state.
• It is notice that client DNS queries are still being forwarded to the offline DNS server.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

• DNS configuration on the client is still referencing the IP address of the offline DNS server.
• NSX DNS zone configuration is still referencing the IP address of the offline DNS server.

Resolution

• Reconfigure the DNS settings on the client to no longer reference the IP of the offline DNS server and add an IP address of a functioning DNS server if needed.
• Reconfigure the NSX DNS zone to no longer reference the IP of the offline DNS server and add an IP address of a functioning DNS server if needed.
