Issue/Introduction

  • In the windows event logs within a Windows guest OS, you see events in the event log:

  • You may also experience the application crashing due to this.
  • In Cisco FCoE environments, you may see messages in the vmkernel.log similar to:

[from /var/log/vmkernel.log]

2026-01-13T22:57:41.723Z In(182) vmkernel: cpu22:2098020)nfnic: <2>: INFO: fdls_process_adisc_req: 3820: tport for fcid:0xXXXXX not found.. Dropping ADISC req.

Environment

  • VMware ESXi 8.x

Cause

  • This is due to network or fabric connectivity issues related to the datastores that the VM's are located on.

Resolution

  • In the case of the FCoE related message noted above, this indicates it cannot locate the address of the referenced port on the fabric any longer.
  • Please work with you storage team and/or fabric switch vendor to investigate the zoning, switch configuration, physical connectivity, etc. related to the data path for the datastores/LUN's used for the VM's.
