Issue/Introduction

A DX UIM Robot installed on HP-UX displays the following symptoms:

  • OS details in Operator Console and/or controller GUI are empty/not populated
  • When deploying packages to the robot, "no sections found which can be installed" error is returned
  • uninstalling and reinstalling the robot does not help

Environment

DX UIM - Any Version
robot/controller - any version
HP-UX 11.31

Cause

This is caused by a hostname exceeding 8 characters, as HP-UX systems are supposed to be limited to 8-character hostnames.

In HPUX 11.31 it is possible to set some parameters which allow for longer hostnames, however this can break the compatibility with some scripts and utilities (including the UIM robot).

Resolution

1. Execute the following command on HP-UX which will force the "uname" command to only return 8 characters.

/usr/sbin/kctune uname_eoverflow=0

2. Uninstall and reinstall the robot
