Issue/Introduction

  • On NSX Edge, when configurations such as NAT or Load Balancer (LB) are applied to a gateway, ARP proxy entries for specific IP addresses are automatically enabled as required.
  • For example, if DNAT is configured on a Tier-1 gateway and the destination IP address belongs to the subnet of the uplink on the connected Tier-0 gateway, the ARP proxy for that destination IP will be enabled on the Tier-0 gateway.
  • It does not respond to any ARP requests, which is an implementation seen in some third-party products.

Environment

VMware NSX

Resolution

This is by design for the ARP proxy functionality on the NSX Edge.

To verify the IP addresses for which ARP proxy is enabled, you can download the ARP proxy entries from the GUI.
