Issue/Introduction

  • The below error appears while creating a cluster or adding a host to the SDDC Manager.
    • Multiple definitions are found for the named teaming policies: [DMZ, BACKUP, PROD, RAC] specified on the VLAN transport zone: nsx-vlan-transportzone across the uplink profiles:

In the above log snippet, the following policies are causing the conflict as the Uplink Profile used by a Transport Node (Host or Edge) contains named teaming policies that are duplicated

  • DMZ
  • BACKUP
  • PROD
  • RAC

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

This error occurs in NSX when an Uplink Profile used by a Transport Node (Host or Edge) contains named teaming policies that are duplicated or have inconsistent mappings.

This frequently happens when a Transport Node Profile (TNP) is applied to a cluster, but the named teaming policies defined in the Uplink Profile do not match the VLAN Transport Zone.

Resolution

  1. Identify the Misconfiguration:
The named teaming policies in the Uplink Profile must precisely match the names, active, and standby uplink definitions mapped in the VLAN Transport Zone.
  2. Edit the Uplink Profile:
    • Go to System > Fabric > Profiles > Uplink Profiles.
    • Find the profile used by your Transport Nodes.
    • Review the Named Teaming Policies section.
  3. Resolve Duplication:
    • Remove or rename the duplicate entries [DMZ, BACKUP, PROD].
    • Ensure each policy name is unique within the profile.
  4. Verify VLAN Transport Zone Mapping:
    • Check the VLAN Transport Zone and ensure these specific policies (DMZ, BACKUP, etc.) are correctly mapped to physical NICs (e.g., pNIC1, pNIC2).
  5. Re-apply Configuration:
    • Save the updated Uplink Profile.
    • If you are using a Transport Node Profile (TNP), re-apply it to the cluster to clear the validation error.
