Issue/Introduction

Does vSphere Replication replicate advanced parameter changes, or need manually changing on failover?

Environment

VMware vSphere Replication 9.x

Cause

vSphere Replication is primarily focused on vmdk( disk ) replication, thus on the RPO it syncs data that has changed in the vmdks disks themselves.

  • On Initial Full Sync ( new replication job) - Replication copies ALL VM files to target site, hence the vmx config files is replicated to target location.

  • On Next RPO -  vSphere Replication syncs data that has changed in the vmdks.

Resolution

If you make a change to the protected VM advanced settings, vSphere Replication requires a "Sync Now" task to update the vmx on target.
