NSX SFTP backup configuration fails with No password specified, but not allowed to reuse user password. Error 29106

Issue/Introduction

The following banner is seen when configuring SFTP backups in NSX:

Error: No password specified, but not allowed to reuse user password. Original fileserver URL [email protected]:22 and new fileserver URL [email protected]:22 do not match (Error code: 29106)

An existing SFTP server with the same password may have been used in the past.

It may be the case the existing SFTP server was already in-use for NSX backups, and the server name has changed but the password has not, and the NSX backups is just being updated to reflect the new name.

Cause

The password field in the creation wizard has been left blank.

Even if the server is the same, or the password matches a previous SFTP backup configuration, the password field can only be left blank if editing an existing SFTP server with the same name. Otherwise, the password cannot be referenced in order to be reused automatically.

Resolution

Include the current, correct SFTP server password in the wizard.
