Issue/Introduction

  • When ejecting CD/DVD media from a Linux virtual machine, the VM may become unresponsive due to a CD/DVD door lock.

Note: For more details regarding the CD/DVD door lock behavior, please refer to the following article:
Linux virtual machine (including vCenter) fails to respond after a mounted CDROM is disconnected.

  • In the VMware Cloud Director Tenant Portal, you will be prompted to either override the door lock.

  • After responding to this prompt, the Ejecting Media task in VCD may rarely remain stuck in the Running status.

  • The corresponding task in the vSphere Client shows as completed.

Cause

If the virtual machine state update clearing the "user input required" state and the notification of the "Media Eject task completion" are processed almost simultaneously, VCD may fail to update the task status correctly, leaving it in a "Running" state.

Resolution

Currently, there is no permanent resolution for this issue.

Workaround:
Since the Linux door lock causes the guest OS to hang until the prompt is answered, it is recommended to use the workarounds described in KB 313891, such as ejecting from the guest OS or configuring autoanswer.
