VMs lose network connection after migrate manually

Issue/Introduction

After migrating multiple VMs, some of which lost network connection.

For the issue VMs:

• Ping default gateway failed
• Ping ESXi host where the VMs are located failed.
• Ping other VMs on the same network segment failed.
• These VMs are on the same virtual switch and same port group, and can ping each other.
• VLAN ID is not configured.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

The issue appears in the port group configuration, VLAN ID is not configured.

Resolution

Configure the correct VLAN ID for the port group where the affected virtual machines located.
