Issue/Introduction

This article explains the causes of usage discrepancies in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Usage Meter environments utilizing Enhanced Linked Mode (ELM) and provides guidance on the correct registration procedures.

  • Discrepancies exist between Usage Meter reports and actual resource consumption.

  • Workloads or inventory from specific vCenter Servers within an ELM configuration are missing from the Monthly Usage Reports.

Environment

VCF Usage Meter 9.0

Cause

VCF Usage Meter does not automatically detect all vCenter Servers participating in an Enhanced Linked Mode (ELM) configuration. While ELM allows multiple vCenter Servers to be managed through a single vSphere Client interface, Usage Meter only collects data from the specific endpoints registered within its console. Consequently, any vCenter Server instance that has not been individually registered will not be metered.

Resolution

Manually register each vCenter Server in the ELM configuration to Usage Meter.

Note: When multiple vCenter Servers are registered to a single Usage Meter instance, the subsequent Monthly Usage Reports will reflect the consolidated usage of all registered instances.

Additional Information

Add a vCenter Instance for Metering in VCF Usage Meter
