Issue/Introduction

  • Supervisor Control Plane VM is stuck at "error: unknown filesystem" Entering rescue mode. GRUB rescue. 

  • Reboot of the Supervisor Control Plane VM instantly take us to the 'GRUB rescue' prompt.
  • Unable to run the fsck checks from the GRUB rescue prompt.

Environment

  • vCenter Server 8.0
  • WCP

Cause

  • This happens because the bootloader can't find its configuration files, often due to corrupted filesystem.
