Issue/Introduction

  • This article is intended to outline the critical compatibility requirements and infrastructure prerequisites necessary before upgrading the Supervisor to version 1.30.10. Ensuring that vCenter Server and vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS) versions are aligned is essential for maintaining the stability of the management plane and ensuring the continued functionality of managed guest clusters.

Environment

  • VMware Kubernetes Service

Resolution

Ensure all components meet the following compatibility requirements before proceeding with the upgrade:

  • vCenter Server Alignment: The vCenter Server must be running Version 8.0 Update 3g or later. This specific patch level contains the backend components required to support the 1.30.x lifecycle. Refer to vSphere Supervisor 8.0 Release Notes.

  • VKS Version Requirements: To manage guest clusters running versions 1.32 or 1.33 on a 1.30 Supervisor, the vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS) must be at Version 3.x. This status is verifiable via the vCenter UI under Workload Management > Services.

  • Cluster Interoperability: All existing clusters must be validated against the target Supervisor version to prevent scheduling issues or API deprecation conflicts. Check Product Interoperability Matrix.
