Issue/Introduction

Customers with an active Web Protection Suite (WPS) subscription license (ISG_PR_ADV_SUB) may attempt to assign this license to legacy ProxySG hardware appliances such as SG-S200, SG-S400, and SG-S500.
Although the license may appear in the licensing portal, the appliance does not activate the associated subscription services. As a result:

• Advanced Web Security remains unlicensed
• Web Application Protection services do not enable
• Subscription expiry dates are not displayed in the management interface

This behavior can be misinterpreted as a licensing synchronization issue, while the actual cause is platform incompatibility between WPS licensing and legacy SG hardware models.

Cause

The license ISG_PR_ADV_SUB (Web Protection Suite) is not designed for legacy hardware ProxySG appliances.
It is built for newer SSP and SG-VA platform and not for the older SG hardware line.

SG S200/S400/S500 devices use an older licensing model tied directly to hardware serial numbers and require BCIS-based licensing, not WPS suite licensing.

Resolution

Legacy ProxySG hardware requires the BCIS subscription license:
License Type: IS-AWAA-SWG-SUB

This license must be:

• Bound to the appliance serial number
• Generated specifically for that hardware

ISG_PR_ADV_SUB will only work with the SSP appliance running the ProxySG application and the ProxySG VA.
