Issue/Introduction

• When using the vmss2core tool, the operation may fail with the following Error Message:
  • The code execution cannot proceed because msvcr120.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem"

 

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0

VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

This error indicates that the required Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable package is missing or corrupted. 

Resolution

• Please verify the presence of the 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable package' on the Windows system where the vmss2core.exe utility is being executed.
• Install or Re-install the package "vcredist_x86.exe" from the following link:
  • Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013
• Run the command to convert the VM snapshot into a core dump as per the KB: Converting a VMware virtual machine snapshot to a memory dump 
  • Example: vmss2core.exe -W8 snapshot.vmsn snapshot.vmem
