VMware NSX

Issue/Introduction

  • You've adopted cluster based licensing in vCenter.
  • As example, you have 5 workload clusters each with 1x VMware vSphere 8 Enterprise Plus license and 1 vCenter.
  • In vCenter licensing you see 5x VMware vSphere 8 Enterprise Plus licenses
  • When you check NSX: System > Licenses, you see:
1x VMware vSphere 8 Enterprise Plus license associated to the Compute Manager
5x VMware firewall with advanced Threat Prevention licenses for each cluster
  • The number of cores associated to the VMware vSphere 8 licence on NSX doesn't match the total number of cores used by all the clusters in vCenter.

The preceding entries are only examples. Number of licences may vary depending on your environment.

Resolution

The consumption of the Solution License for VCF is tracked against the vCenter servers that are registered to your NSX deployment.
Therefore you only see 1 license as you have 1 compute manager registered in NSX. VMware vCenter controls the usage of the licenses.
