Issue/Introduction

  • Dashboards are not displaying all metrics, resulting in empty widgets or "No Data" messages.
  • Metric collection is interrupted across both custom and out-of-the-box dashboards.

  • The following error is logged at VMware Aria operations appliance in /storage/log/vcops/log/adapters/VMwareAdapter_##.log:
ERROR [Collector worker thread 18] com.integrien.adapter.vmware.VMwareAdapter.initializeVimClient - Unable to connect to VC https://<VCENTER_FQDN>/sdk com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.InvalidLogin: Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password.

  • Manual validation of the VMware Adapter account fails when attempting the following:
1.Navigate to Data Sources > Integrations > Accounts
2.Edit the VMware Adapter and click Validate Connection.

Environment

Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations) 8.18.x

Cause

This is an authentication failure between Aria Operations and the vCenter Server. This is typically caused by:

Stale Credentials: The service account password was changed in the identity provider (SSO/Active Directory) but not updated in the Aria Operations credential store.

Account Lockout: Multiple failed login attempts have locked the service account in vSphere or Active Directory.

Resolution

To resolve the collection failure, first verify the service account is active in vCenter, then update the stored credentials in Aria Operations and validate the connection to resume data ingestion. This process clears the "InvalidLogin" fault and restores metric flow to dashboards.

1. Account Status Verification

  • Log in to the vSphere Client or Active Directory to confirm the service account is neither locked nor expired.

2. Credential Update

  • Go to Administration > Integrations > Accounts.
  • Select the affected vCenter adapter, click the Vertical Ellipsis (three dots), and select Edit.
  • Click the icon next to the Credential dropdown and re-type the current password.
  • Click the Validate Connection button within the Edit window.
  • If prompted with a new SSL thumbprint, click Accept.
  • Click Save and verify that the adapter status returns to a green "Data Receiving" state.
