Issue/Introduction

We got new MiB file to upload in Spectrum. We have configured lot of alerts based on OID in this MiB file.

If we upload new version of that MiB file , will this existing customization persist as is ?

Can we revert to original state if new MiB not worked as expected ?

Resolution

STEPS:

  1. PERFORM PRE-ACTIVITY BACKUP

Backup the following directories and files to ensure a recovery point:

    Path: /usr/Spectrum/MiBdatabase ․

    Path: /usr/Spectrum/Events ․

    Path: $SPECROOT/custom/Events ․

EXPECTED: Backups are secured and can be used to revert if the activity fails ․

  2. COMPILE THE MIB FILE

Use the MIB Tools to compile the new file. This action updates the internal dictionary Spectrum uses to read OIDs ․

EXPECTED: Text definitions are updated without affecting existing event logic ․

  3. MANAGE TRAP MAPPING CAUTIOUSLY

Only use the "Map" function in MIB Tools if there are new traps in the MIB that require support ․

WARNING: Using the Map function for traps already configured will overwrite existing custom event mappings ․

Additional Information

Use the backup files to restore configuration in case of issues.
