Issue/Introduction

While creating a VI workload domain on the SDDC Manager, the workflow fails at the task "Create vSAN Disk Groups" -

Description "Create vSAN Disk Group"

Progress Messages "VSAN Cluster validation failed on host_fqdn"

Error "VSAN Cluster validation failed on host_fqdn"

Environment

VCF 5.2.0

Cause

The ESX hosts VMkernel adapter that has the vSAN service enabled on it has an incorrectly configured MTU.

For example: 9000 MTU is configured, 1500 MTU is expected

Resolution

To resolve the issue, the MTU value configured must be that which is expected.

To configure the MTU value for an ESX host VMkernel adapter -

  • in the vSphere UI, navigate to the ESX host
  • open the Configure tab
  • select VMkernel adapters under Networking
  • identify the vmkx device that has the vSAN service enabled on it
  • edit the device and set the MTU to the expected value
