Issue/Introduction

Where do the harvest agents on RHEL8 servers play a part in the rollout of the new version of Harvest.  When should the agent be upgraded?  Should I upgrade when upgrading my SCM Server?  Or wait till the SCM Clients are upgraded later?

Environment

Harvest Software Change Manager
all versions

Resolution

The rule is that the agent should be the same version as the client connecting to it.  So,

  • If a user is connecting to an agent in Workbench to make direct checkouts or checkins through that agent, the agent version should be the same as the version of Workbench connecting to it.
  • If  a server-side UDP script being executed from the Harvest broker that does a checkout to a remote machine using the SCM Agent, then the agent version should be the same as the version of the broker.

So, for each server where a Harvest agent is installed, you should evaluate how that agent is being used and upgrade it accordingly.
