Issue/Introduction

The VCF Download Tool log /opt/vmware/vcf/lcm/vcf-download/log/vdt.log contains entries similar to the below -

YYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss.sss+0000 [main] ERROR [com.vmware.evo.sddc.lcm.tools.common.adapter.impl.ProductBinariesApiAdapterImpl]  Failed to upload binary.

message: Patch file /nfs/vmware/vcf/nfs-mount/PROD/COMP/XXX/xxxxxxxxxx.tar checksum xxxxx does NOT match with the element checksum xxxxx

Environment

VCF 9.0.1

Cause

The tar file composition is being changed in some way, resulting in the checksum changing - and in turn the validation failing.

This can occur for several reasons.

Examples:

- an unstable download link, resulting in download retries

- a proxy performing SSL inspection

Resolution

Identify and address the cause of the tar file composition being changed on download.

Once the download is completed unencumbered and the actual checksum matches with that expected, the issue is expected to be resolved.

The actual checksum can be verified as follows -

  • Linux: sha256sum bundle-xxxxxx.tar
  • Windows: certutil -hashfile bundle-xxxxxx.tar SHA256

The expected checksum can be found on the https://support.broadcom.com/ page for the bundle.
